I have long been a solopreneur with varying levels of success ... depending upon my state in life.
While raising my kids and homeschooling them, I always did a bit of work on the side ... which included writing several bestselling sets of flash cards to help Catholic kids learn their faith. I was also a regular guest columnist for a newspaper in a mid-sized city.
After the kids were raised, I realized I needed to be more serious about my "solopreneuring" if I wanted to earn serious money.
Even though I was a widow in my mid-50s — who had been out of the corporate work force for 18 years — I never really thought about going back to that world. The thought of a nine-to-fiver with a boss breathing down my neck was terrifying.
My talent, background, and experience was in various forms of writing, so I decided to target "writing for business." That was because over the years, I had noticed how many college-educated executives couldn't write their way out of a paper bag.
I never did get too many assignments writing letters for execs ... though I did get some.
For awhile I did grant writing which worked pretty well until the State of California started going broke.
Then I edited a local lifestyle magazine. And even wrote resumes.
At the same time, I segued into copy writing. I managed to land some clients. Once a prospect asked me if I did SEO (search engine optimization) copy writing; she even recommended a book on the topic.
I read the book and, afterwards, my head was so spinning, I swore I'd never write for the Internet.
So I continued with my print brochures, newsletters, and ads. Then a client asked me to write a web site, which I did. By then I had subscribed to a newsletter by Nick Usborne about Internet copy writing.
I used many of the tips from his newsletter while building my client's site. But I soon realized that I needed to know more AND ... that I really enjoyed Internet writing.
About that time Nick Usborne released his online copywriting program through AWAI. I bought it and also decided to hire him as a long term coach.
At my age, I wanted to learn SEO copywriting and learn it fast!
Today, I write for numerous online clients, helping them make money from the Internet. And I love to give tips to businesses in my very own
Easy Web Tips newsletter.
My web SEO advice articles and columns are also published in online and offline professional trade media.
So this site is dedicated to sharing some of the resources I have found very valuable in my journey as an Internet solopreneur. I will also share resources I haven't read myself yet, but that I plan to read when I can get to them.
Of course, this site is also to just share some encouragement for others on a similar journey, who are simply hoping to make enough money to provide for themselves and their families.
The site may look a tad empty now ... but if there's one thing I've learned as an Internet entrepreneur ... it's to move fast and fix later!
